The phrase “Lorem Ipsum Dolor Sit Amet”, commonly abbreviated as “Lorem Ipsum” is often found in a graphic element demo and printing. In a printing business, the term “Lorem Ipsum” is called “dummy” or standardized word arrangements.
Then, what does “Lorem Ipsum” mean? As per the definitions from various sources, it is a standard text to arrange the graphic elements or word arrangements in presentations or articles.
“Lorem Ipsum” is chosen to be the standard text in designing a layout because of its equally normal word spreading. This text is supposed to avoid any focus distractions while designing a layout.
“Lorem Ipsum” is not a meaningless phrase. According to Wikipedia, this phrase, which has been used since 1500s, is from Latin and has a common form as follows:
“Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. Ut enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exercitation ullamco laboris nisi ut aliquip ex ea commodo consequat. Duis aute irure dolor in reprehenderit in voluptate velit esse cillum dolore eu fugiat nulla pariatur. Excepteur sint occaecat cupidatat non proident, sunt in culpa qui officia deserunt mollit anim id est laborum.”
The English version will likely be written as follows:
“Loves or pursues or desires to obtain pain of itself, because it is pain, but circumstances occur in which toil and pain can procure him some great. To take a trivial example, which of us ever laborious physical exercise, except to obtain some advantage from it? But who find fault chooses to enjoy a pleasure one avoids a pain produces no blinded by desire, that they cannot foresee blame belongs to those who fail in their duty through weakness of will, which is the same as saying through shrinking from toil.”

“Lorem Ipsum” firstly used by an unknown publisher who took some of the text from the original. He scrambled the text into a letter sample book. However, it was only popular in 1960 with the release of a letraset that used this sentence. The sentence is increasingly popular as the emergence of publishing software on computers.
Richard McClintock, a Latin professor from the Hampden-Sidney College, Virginia, considers that this sentence was quoted from a classical Latin literary work written by Cicero entitled de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum (On the ends of good and evil).
In today’s use, the text “Lorem Ipsum” is slightly different from its original Cicero text.
